In Russia, prices for onion fell
In Russia, prices for onions fell that year. Only from the beginning of the week onions in Russian farms became cheaper by an average of 10%.
Today, farmers are ready to ship these products at 39-59 cents per kilogram, whereas as early as that week the minimum prices for products did not fall below 46 cents per kilogram. Producers had to resort to lower prices because wholesale companies began to put forward rather stringent quality requirements for onions and refuse to buy. The quality of onions began to deteriorate due to long-term storage.
The pressure on prices in the segment of domestic products is also exerted by the import of new onions. According to market operators, this week has increased the supply of imported products of this year’s harvest in the Russian market. Thus, today a cheaper early onion comes from Kazakhstan at a price of 70 cents per kilogram, while more expensive products from Egypt are offered for sale at 79 cents per kilogram.
It should be noted that in spite of the cheaper onion of the crop of last year, today these products are offered on the Russian market at an average of 3 times more expensive than in the same period of that year.
