Moldovan walnut growers increased forecast for 2019 walnut crop

Based on information about the promotion of the harvesting campaign coming from nut-growing enterprises, as well as on expert estimates of the number of fruits on trees in orchards and alleys along the roads, the administration of the Union of associations of producers of nut-bearing crops adjusted the forecast for the walnut crop to 35-36 thousand tons (in shell ) Given the heterogeneous quality of the products, this corresponds to approximately 14-15 thousand tons of walnut kernel. Last year, according to the calculations of the National Bureau of Statistics, about 35 thousand tons of shell nuts and about 14 thousand tons of nut kernels were produced in Moldova. It is reported by the Internet portal EastFruit.

In June this year, during the traditional summer conference of Moldovan walnut growers, the leaders of large exporting companies announced the USDA forecast for walnut production in RM in 2019 - 9 thousand tons of walnut kernel. Given the adverse weather conditions in the spring during the pollination of walnut orchards, as well as summer drought, specialists from the Union of Walnut Growers of the Republic of Moldova were inclined to agree with this forecast. Then, in late summer and early autumn, they expressed concern that the quality of walnuts this year, as in the past, may be low (a large number of dark kernels). However, at least in the first half of the harvesting campaign, fears are not justified, the situation is more optimistic than it seemed before.

In addition, as noted by the chairman of the Union of Walnut Growers of the Republic of Moldova Oleg Tyrsine, there is optimism about the demand for new Moldovan walnuts from traders-suppliers of products - both to the EU market and to the countries of the Middle East.
