Rosselkhoznadzor found pests in the supply of potatoes and citrus fruits in China

In connection with the identification of quarantine objects, on August 10, 2019, the Rosselkhoznadzor introduced temporary restrictions on the import of stone fruit and pome crops from the People's Republic of China into the Russian Federation.

In the period from October 29 to November 9, 2019, a delegation of the Rosselkhoznadzor paid a visit to the People's Republic of China to familiarize themselves with the quarantine phytosanitary control system for regulated products.

During the visit, it was found that the system of quarantine phytosanitary control in the People’s Republic of China is not effective enough.

A similar situation is with citrus fruits and potatoes. In 2019, seven cases of detection of quarantine pests in citrus fruits (eastern fruit fly and polyphagous humpback fly) and two cases of detection in potato lots (viroid spindle-shaped potato tubers and golden potato nematode) were detected.

In this regard, the Rosselkhoznadzor is forced to strengthen quarantine phytosanitary control over the import of citrus fruits and potatoes from the PRC. In the near future, the Service will hold talks with the Chinese side, at which it will warn about the possibility of introducing temporary restrictions on the supply of these products to the Russian Federation from the People's Republic of China.
